Wow, what a fantastic 4th of July in Columbia County! I started my morning in Scappoose for the annual Pancake breakfast hosted by Scappoose Fire Station. The proceeds go towards the local High School Graduation Scholarships sponsored by the Scappoose Volunteer Firefighter Association. The food was excellent, and the ability to chat with local citizens was even better.
Next was enjoying the beautiful Columbia River and the beauty we have in our backyards. Major kudos to the City of St. Helens for hosting an Independence Day: Salute to America celebration on the St. Helens waterfront. Community groups participated; events included live music, fireworks, flag-raising, a national anthem ceremony, bell ringing, and more. It was great seeing Mayor Rick Scholl rocking his patriotic top hat. Another thank you goes to Tina Curry, the city event coordinator, the CERT team, and the volunteers; you all made this possible!
